EVP examples
80 employee value proposition examples from 8 sector lists, each scored out of 40 on what a candidate can read on the employer's own careers pages, with the lessons that repeat.
Updated 31 October 2026Scores captured 30 October 2026.
An employee value proposition (EVP) is the deal between an employer and its people: what they are asked to give and what they get in return. The best employee value proposition examples say it plainly enough that the right people lean in and the wrong people quietly step aside. This guide gathers the best of them, 80 EVPs from eight sector lists, and pulls out the lessons you can use on your own careers website.
The framework behind these lists comes from the book Give & Get Employer Branding, co-written by Bryan Adams, and its follow-up Sell The Truth. Its definition is a value exchange. In the authors’ words:
“the EVP is never a slogan or a snapshot of an area of strength within the organization; we offer a clear value exchange”
Give & Get Employer Branding, pp. 39 to 40. Happydance EVP grading framework v2.0
The book calls the two halves of that exchange the Give and the Get. A give is what an employee must be prepared to provide, commit or sacrifice. A get is what they can expect in return. The same book describes a good EVP as a smart filter: it should reduce the number of applications by being honest about what it takes to thrive. That is why the best examples below do not flatter. They filter.
Each sector has its own list of ten, with commentary, verbatim quotes from the employer’s own pages, an employee story and a lesson for every entry. These tables show five of the highest scoring EVPs in each, in score order. Scores are out of 40.

Every entry in the sector lists ends with a lesson. These eight come from the leading employers in each list and apply well beyond their sector. The healthcare lesson is taken from the second placed employer.
Say who it is not for, then show your working. Publishing the disadvantages is the strongest proof of the advantages.
Make the Get personal. A share scheme is a line in a benefits grid until a colleague tells you what their dividend paid for.

Give every story a frame candidates will remember. “AT her most honest” turns a library of posts into a brand, and it lets each person be the hero of their own chapter.
Tell the truth about the transition. A Marine admitting he was nervous about providing for his family reassures the next veteran more than any promise could.

Put the exchange in one line people can repeat. Seven words can carry a whole EVP when both halves are there.

Write your Give and Get as a mirror. When the promise reflects what you ask of people, they see the deal in a single line.

Treat a career break as experience, not a gap. When your stories show people returning, coming back three times or staying for four generations, the Get stops being a claim and becomes a pattern.

Tell the story of the job someone did not get. A rejection that became a better path is more convincing than any straight line to the top.
Each EVP is scored from 1 to 5 on eight criteria, for a total out of 40. The criteria come straight from the two books.
| Criterion | The question it asks |
|---|---|
| The Give and Get | Is the exchange explicit and stated together: what people must give, and what they get in return? |
| The whole truth | Does it name harsh realities and vulnerabilities as part of the deal, specifically enough to believe? |
| Story proof | Is the EVP proven through stories with change and conflict, where the employee is the hero? |
| Employee voice | Do real employees tell the story in their own words, in a variety of voices? |
| Distinctiveness | Is it a specific brand of difficult that only this employer could claim? |
| Audience fit | Does it help the right people answer “Do I have what it takes?” |
| Alignment | Do the reputation, expectation and experience layers tell the same truth across the careers website, stories and social? |
| Proof | Can a candidate check the claims through evidence, tangible examples, policies or numbers? |
Across all eight lists the same habits keep appearing. Each is rooted in the books, and each shows up in the entries above.
“The repelling effect is not a flaw. It is the filter.”

An EVP only works if candidates can find it and check it. That means weaving the Give and Get through your careers website, supporting it with employee stories, and making it easy to reach from any page. Our guide to employee stories examples for careers websites shows how, and our best careers sites of 2026 ranking celebrates 15 careers websites that do it well.
Some Happydance features help candidates reach the answers behind your EVP. Conversational Navigation answers plain language questions from your FAQs, policy pages and EVP content, so people can ask what it is really like and get a straight answer. The AI visibility audit reviews content clarity, SEO structure and employer brand storytelling. Our GEO and AEO guide explains why that clarity also helps AI search tools describe you accurately.
From our 2026 lists: American Express, “YOU LEAD THE WAY. WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK.”; Cummins, “At Cummins, we believe your passion is your power.”; Petco, “Help pets live better and grow your career”; and Wegmans, “WE are a food market where YOU make the difference.” Each sector list has ten examples with the full commentary.
A good EVP is a clear exchange of what people give and what they get, told honestly enough to act as a smart filter, proven by real employee stories and checkable evidence, and specific to the employer.
It is the exchange at the heart of an EVP. The Give is what an employee must be prepared to provide, commit or sacrifice. The Get is what they can expect in return. The term comes from the book Give & Get Employer Branding.
Each EVP is scored from 1 to 5 on eight criteria: the Give and Get, the whole truth, story proof, employee voice, distinctiveness, audience fit, alignment and proof. That makes a total out of 40, and an EVP needs 24 or more to be included.
GitLab, with 36 out of 40 in the US tech list, is the highest score across the eight lists.
Each sector has its own list of ten with commentary, verbatim quotes and a lesson for every entry: US tech, UK financial services, UK tech, US credit unions, US financial services, US healthcare, US manufacturing and automotive, and US retail.
